Blackburn man jailed for eight years for grooming girl
A MAN who groomed and sexually abused a teenage girl has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Sajid Hassan, 42, of Colenso Road, Blackburn was found guilty of sexually activity with a child after a five day trial at Preston Crown Court.
He appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday where he was sentenced to eight years and put on the sex offenders register for life. He was also given a ten year Sexual Offences Prevention Order.
The court heard he groomed and exploited the 14-year-old girl between October 2009 and January 2010.
He was arrested after an investigation by the Engage Team – a specialist team aimed at preventing and tackling the sexual exploitation of children.
Sgt Mark Whelan said: “Hassan is a predatory and dangerous man who deliberately targeted a vulnerable young girl.
“Specialist officers from the Engage team have supported the girl and her family throughout what has been a very difficult time and I hope that with continued support she will now be able to move on with her life.
“This type of crime will not be tolerated and we will continue to target, warn and prosecute offenders to hit home the message that this type of behaviour is not just unacceptable, it is criminal, and we will pursue those people involved and bring them to justice.
“I urge anyone with information or concerns about the sexual exploitation of children to contact us.”
