Ban on burqas first introduced by Belgium’s government last year
Move follows riot sparked by arrest of a woman for wearing the full face covering

Belgian right-wingers have offered to pay a bounty to anyone who reports a veiled woman to police.
The Vlaams Belang political party made the 250 euros (£200) offer today in the wake of face veil riots in Brussels.
Filip Dewinter, a senior figure within the right-wing party, told Reuters the riots had made police apprehensive about enforcing the burqa ban.
He claimed that the payment should put pressure on authorities to further enforce it.
Mr Dewinter said: ‘It’s a textile prison for the women who have to live under it.’
The anti-immigration nationalist party’s stunt follows protesters hurling bins and metal barriers at a Brussels police station last week.
The riot broke out after a Muslim woman was arrested for refusing to remove her face veil, or niqab.
A Brussels police spokesman said he was unaware of the money being offered.
But added that any officer who sees a woman wearing a niqab would issue a penalty.
He said: ‘When someone is breaking the law we always have to intervene, demonstrations or no, the niqab is prohibited.’
Women in Belgium risk a maximum fine of 150 euros (£120) if they wear a full face veil in public.
Mr Dewinter said he was not aware how many people had already responded to the offer of a bounty.
A spokeswoman for Belgium’s federal police said the legality of the bounty was a question for the judiciary, but if someone felt insulted by it they could file a complaint with the police.
Police in Belgium are investigating last week’s riots and arrested 13 members of the Islamist group Sharia4Belgium on Sunday, the police spokesman said.
Sharia4Belgium was not immediately available for comment.
Belgium and France both banned the wearing of full veils in public last year.
Nicolas Sarkozy, who was French president when the ban was brought in, had commented that the outfits oppress women were ‘not welcome’ in France.
Canada announced in December that new citizens had to remove any face coverings, including the niqab and burqa, when they take the oath of citizenship.

Norway attacks: Breivik charged with terror attacks

Anders Behring Breivik, who confessed to attacks which left 77 people dead and 242 injured in Norway, has been charged with terror acts.

Defence lawyers went to his prison near the capital, Oslo, to present their client with the charges.

Prosecutors have indicated they consider Breivik mentally ill and will seek to have him committed to psychiatric care rather than jailed.

Breivik is expected to go on trial on 16 April.

He has been charged under a paragraph in Norway’s anti-terror law that refers to violent acts intended to disrupt key government functions or spread fears in the population.

“The defendant has committed highly serious crimes of a dimension we have no previous experience with in our society in modern times,” prosecutor Svein Holden told reporters in Oslo.

‘Totally calm’
Speaking outside Breivik’s prison, police spokesman Tore Jo Nielsen said the killer had reacted calmly as the charges were read out.

“The whole reading-of-the-charges process was very calm and it took place in a small room where we were sitting with the accused and I can now confirm that the charges have been read to him…” he said.

“He was totally calm.”

If convicted, Breivik faces a maximum penalty of 21 years in prison.
The prosecution said last week it was prepared to accept Breivik was criminally insane and therefore not responsible for his acts, and as such it might not call for a prison sentence.

However, it reserved the right to alter that view if new elements emerged about his mental health by the end of the trial.

“The way the case appears at the time the charges are being brought, there is no basis to request a regular prison penalty,” state prosecutor Tor-Aksel Busch wrote in instructions to prosecutors handling the case.
“But it must be clear in the charge sheet that the prosecution reserves the right, during the trial, to request a prison punishment or containment lasting 21 years, based on the complete evidence shown to the court.”

Medical experts have been divided over Breivik’s state of mind.

We’re very clear on the fact that it will be tough… to hear [Breivik] explain himself [in court] and to hear about all those who passed away and how they passed away”

A first analysis by court-appointed psychiatrists last year found that he was insane, on the basis of 13 interviews with the prisoner.

Their report said Breivik lived in his “own delusional universe where all his thoughts and acts are guided by his delusions”.

However, four psychiatrists who subsequently assessed Breivik disagreed with several of their court-appointed colleagues’ conclusions.

In findings revealed in January, they argued that Breivik was neither psychotic nor schizophrenic and said they did not think he needed drugs.

A second court-ordered psychiatric evaluation of Breivik is currently under way.

Breivik’s lead lawyer, Geir Lippestad, said the potential for conflicting psychiatric findings complicated the defence.

“We will have to prepare two lines [of defence] – both for sanity and insanity,” he told broadcaster TV2.

Teenage victims
The attacks on 22 July last year were the worst act of violence Norway has seen since World War II, and have had a profound impact there.

Breivik disguised himself as a police officer to plant a car bomb that exploded close to government offices in Oslo, killing eight people and wounding 209.
Still in uniform, he then drove to the island of Utoeya, where a summer youth camp of Norway’s governing Labour Party was being held.

In a shooting spree that lasted more than an hour, he killed 67 people – mostly teenagers – and wounded 33, while a further two people died falling or drowning.

Thirty-four of the dead were aged between 14 and 17, 22 between 18 and 20, six between 21 and 25, and seven older than 25, said prosecutor Inga Bejer Engh.

Earlier casualty reports had spoken of 151 people wounded.

According to prosecutors, nearly 900 people were affected by the twin attacks – 325 in Oslo and 564 on the island of Utoeya.

Only those killed or seriously injured, a total of 119 people, will be named at the trial.

Tove Selbekk, a member of a support group, welcomed the indictment but said many survivors and families of victims were dreading the start of the trial.
“We’re very clear on the fact that it will be tough… to hear him explain himself and to hear about all those who passed away and how they passed away,” he said.

“But this is something we need to go through.”

Trond Henry Blattmann, who lost a son in the massacre, told AFP News agency: “The penalty handed to this man will never be enough in our eyes.

“The most important thing for us is, we hope, that he will never again set foot in Norwegian society.”

Breivik has said his attacks were atrocious but necessary for his campaign to defend Europe against a Muslim invasion.

Investigators have found no evidence to support his claims that he belongs to a secret “resistance” movement.

UKIP out of here! Rowdy right-wing activists barred from pubs

25 UK Independence Party members were handing out fliers when some apparently went crazy after being asked to leave a quiet boozer

A bunch of arrogant right-wing political activists were kicked out of a string of pubs in a night of shame.

The 25 UK Independence Party members were handing out fliers when some apparently went crazy after being asked to leave a quiet boozer.

They allegedly began threatening bar staff and police had to be called.

The cocky group – bedecked in Ukip badges – included disgraced former Tory MP Neil Hamilton.

Appalled drinker Clive Hales, 57, said: “I’ve never seen a bunch of ruder or brasher people.

“They were a bunch of Hooray Henrys and had clearly been drinking beforehand.

“They were asked to stop handing out their leaflets as it is not a political pub. That’s when the trouble started.”
Mr Hales claimed: “They said they’d get the place shut down. They were lairy and one (not Mr Hamilton) told a member of staff he was a barrister who’d ensure that he never worked again – all for asking him to be quiet.”

He said Mr Hamilton – who lost his Conservative seat in the cash for questions saga and was elected to Ukip’s national executive committee last year – had not been behaving badly but he added: “He did nothing to calm the situation.

“It’s ironic that they pride themselves on being the party of traditional British values and then go and behave like this.”

Trouble flared at the Red Lion as the activists tried to hand out Save the Pub fliers in Skegness, Lincs.

Among other stops was the Stumble Inn. A barman said: “They’d already been asked to leave other pubs. They were told they couldn’t put leaflets here and were asked to go.”

Ukip press officer Gawain Towler, who attended the night out, said they had already paid for food and drink when told to go.

He said: “One of our younger members did shout something but he was immediately taken outside by one member and given a good talking to.

“But to suggest we were all shouting insults and threatening people is ridiculous.

Ailing Paisley in intensive care

Posted in Right Wing with tags , on February 6, 2012 by britishloyalist

The Rev Ian Paisley is in intensive care after suffering acute cardiac problems.

The former Northern Ireland First Minister was admitted to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald on the eastern outskirts of Belfast.

A statement on behalf of his wife, Baroness Paisley, said: “She requests that the family’s privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Mr Paisley, 85, was rushed to hospital on Sunday, 10 days after preaching his final sermon as a minister. He is a former moderator and founding member of the Free Presbyterian Church and was MP for North Antrim for almost 40 years.

Mr Paisley, now known as Lord Bannside, was succeeded in North Antrim by his son Ian Jnr.

Party colleagues were briefed in a meeting at Parliament Buildings, Stormont, and prayers were said. One member said they were given no details about how he became ill or his condition. “We were just told he was unwell and in hospital. That was all.”

It is understood Mr Paisley has been on medication for several years for an enlarged heart, possibly since 2004. According to one source tonight the illness could be linked to heart failure, not a heart attack. There had been concerns several years ago about Mr Paisley’s health when he lost weight and looked gaunt.

But he made a good recovery from heart problems and while his voice was showing signs of obvious weakness, some people who were at his farewell sermon at the Martyrs Memorial Church in Belfast on January 27 remarked on how well he appeared for his age.

After withdrawing from church and public life he was planning to write his autobiography.

Mr Paisley’s five children – twin sons Ian Jnr and Kyle, an ordained minister as well, and three daughters, Rhonda, Sharon and Cherith – were among the 3,000 people for his final address.

British web Nazis jailed

British web Nazis jailed

The massed ranks of the Aryan Strike Force (ASF) and the British Freedom Force (BFF) have suffered a body blow as ‘Wigan’ Mike Heaton and Trevor ‘Fist’ Hannington have been sent down for racist comments posted on the internet.

At Liverpool Crown today Michael Heaton was sentenced to 30 months and Trevor Hannington to 2 years. They were cleared of soliciting murder but were convicted of using threatening, abusive or insulting words likely to stir up racial hatred. It was no real surprise but what is interesting is if any further charges are pressed over similar Nazi websites. Certainly, when Heaton and Hannington were first arrested several posters on the various Nazi forums started quailing: “If they can get Mike for what he has said on the net then they can get all or the majority of us I would wager.” Heaton and Hannington have a long history of far-right activity and have been filmed on EDL demos. The EDL website claims that although Heaton was on the earlier demos and the forum he has since been booted off. So we can safely assume Heaton is not going to be seen on any of their demo’s for a while. Unless they start a Prison Division.

There remains a singular unanswered question: why, when Heaton was arrested and then bailed was Hannington remanded. Both have previous convictions. This was going to be ‘explained’ but there has been little to clarify. Nazi Liam Pinkam wrote: “the BFF will be releasing a statement about it either today or tomorrow.” This never appeared. (Pinkham was nicked with Heaton in Blackpool at a BNP do last year and has since been booted out of the BFF after being accused of passing info to the cops and having an underage girlfriend. These rumours are being spread without being substantiated.)

Heaton was involved in the ASF and the BFF. The ASF website “encourages unity, and with our alliance with the RVF, the ASF, welcomes like minded people.” There are always suspicions that the more rabid organisations are state set-ups designed to monitor and contain Nazis, as Combat 18 was thought to be. The BFF website is chock full of dreadful White Noise bands and rhetoric and states that the main enemy are actually white people: “we have the commies, the reds, Antifa, most are white, and there [sic] a minor threat, but our biggest threat is ourselves, so called comrades, nationalists, the infighting is amazing.” The BFF also rue the ever present Nazi factionalism then post a link to a website smearing Kevin Watmough the founder of Redwatch, part of C18 and a member of the tiny BPP (formerly the WNP). The site accuses him of going out with a Gypsy “Yes a proper gypsy” and of being “A Liar, A Cheat, A Rapist and long time Agent Provocateur.”

The Heaton and Hannington convictions follow on from the Sheppard and Whittle duo who were jailed for their website outpourings last year. Sheppard and Whittle had legged it to the States in 2008 hoping to evade the charges but they were extradited and forced to stand trial. They are currently appealing against their prison sentences. 2 weeks ago the father-son terror-clown act in Newcastle were jailed over the ASF website and for possessing ricin amongst other things. There have always been violent extremists in the Nazi scene who are prepared to escalate the ‘race war’: BNP member Terrence Gavan was sentenced to 11 years for possession of explosives and firearms; BNP senior Tony Lecomber was convicted on explosives charges in 1985; ‘London nail bomber’ David Copeland was jailed for murder in 1999; Stuart Kerr, a fan of BNP and Combat 18, was jailed for bombing an Asian shop in the same year; David Tovey was jailed 2 years later for stockpiling explosive material; Robert Cottage and David Jackson were done for explosives in 2006; in the same year John Laidlaw was jailed for a shooting spree in north London; Allen Boyce and Terry Collins were both convicted on explosives charges; and last week hedgerow terrorist David Lucas got a guilty verdict for gunpowder and ammo.

The Cops & The EDL
In Channel 4’s panicky report Heaton and Hannington on Thursday it was interesting to note the reaction of the cops. The current police line is that the EDL have “1 or 2 extremists” but are mostly okay. This new ‘softly softly approach’ started after the EDL leadership were arrested in Scotland and taken back to Sheffield which begs several questions: Why arrest them? Why Sheffield? Was it uniform or Special Branch? Why the sudden turnaround by the cops in Bolton with mass arrests of anti-fascists? Why are the EDL being allowed to turn up in Whitechapel and not prevented from organising in Bradford both of which are sensitive areas guaranteed to kick off? Without getting too conspiracy theory about it, did the police offer a softer line on the EDL in exchange for info on hardcore hooligans before the World Cup as well as on Nazi extremists who the EDL leaders profess to dislike anyway? Without doubt the EDL serve to divide communities and are politically and economically useful at the moment: the EDL enflame Islamophobia which is necessary to continue the otherwise unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as gaining support in any forthcoming conflict with Iran. However, they also increase the ‘need for surveillance’ and stronger legislation on public assembly which will work against them.

The other question that remains is that of web content. With Sheppard and Whittle behind bars and Heaton and Hannington about to sample HMP’s finest cuisine for the next year or so how does this affect the other extreme websites. On places like VNN and Stormfront there are many threads that, late at night, ‘having strong drink taken’ descend into amusing bitchiness and not-so-amusing threats, racist outpourings and vile anti-Semitism. The EDL are not exempt either with current threads like ‘***k Palestine’ and ‘how many uaf are gonna get done over today.’ Having achieved a couple of high profile convictions, are the cops going to be trawling through the sites and trying to secure a few more promotion boosting arrests? This affects militant anti-fascists as well as nutjob fascists. Posters beware!
