Op-ed: Europeans horrified to discover that they must contend with homegrown terrorists

As long as we were dealing with Islamic terrorists arriving in Western Europe from the Middle East and not part of local society, it was possible to monitor them and thwart their terror intentions. They were foreigners. Yet what happens when the terrorists are French or European locals of Muslim descent who were born in Europe? To what extent can their actions be monitored and their terror activities curbed? It’s much more difficult, and this is the European nightmare, which keeps growing, as illustrated by the brutal murder in Toulouse.

These Muslim European youngsters, some of whom view jihad as a model for imitation, are deeply familiar with European society and its constitutional, security and moral vulnerabilities. Studies show that Muslim youths born in Europe are much more radical than the generation of their immigrant parents, who were preoccupied with making a living.
A fascinating and important study by British think tank Policy Exchange found that Muslim youngsters in Britain are quickly moving towards radicalization, Islamization, and a desire to change Britain’s identity to conform to Islam. These are loud warning signs, yet nobody can do anything about it in Europe for fear of being accused of primitivism.
The study was premised, among other things, on a poll among Britain’s Muslim population. Some 37% of youngsters aged 16-24 want to adopt Islamic laws in Britain (of course, nobody would renounce their British citizenship) compared to only 17% of respondents aged above 55. Meanwhile, 37% of young respondents want their children to study in Islamic schools, compared to only 19% of older respondents. Some 7% of respondents confessed to admiring terror groups like al-Qaeda, including 13% of youngsters and 3% of older respondents. (Notably, the terrorist who blew himself up at Tel Aviv’s Mike’s Place café in 2003 was a Muslim carrying a British passport.) Finally, 74% of the youngsters prefer their wives to wear a veil, compared to 28% among older respondents.

Easy prey for terrorists
Meanwhile, the European Union has become an awkward, clumsy body, up to its neck in bureaucracy, with odd technocrats assuming top posts: For example, Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton. The EU exposed European states to accelerated Muslim immigration, while forcing them to adopt liberal, lenient laws towards minorities and immigrants. The sense of sovereignty and safeguarding of borders, which is supposed to be natural for every country, was almost annulled, while officials in Brussels make decisions for all EU states; the same Brussels that already boasts a Muslim majority at city hall.

And so, the European Union has become easy prey for those interested in establishing terror cells and misusing the benefits of living in Europe. These Jihad groups view the EU as a bulbous, atrophied body that is an easy victim for their schemes. These are al-Qaeda’s grandchildren already, who are no longer operating in the name of veteran leaders and usually don’t even know them. They are an original European product. Some of them travel to the Middle East or to Afghanistan, come in contact with terror elements, and import the ideas, and arms, to Europe. At times there is no need for it, as the Internet is a superb guide and many youngsters are exposed to violent Islamic information without speaking a word of Arabic.
For long years, senior EU officials felt they were living in a remote, calm island, looking from above at the Third World and Islam, or at least this is how they hoped to view themselves. Yet this is no longer the case. And this truth, which has now pervaded the hearts of millions in France following the Toulouse massacre, is horrifying them. It is not the Jews whom the French are now thinking of; first and foremost, they fear for themselves.

British Muslim Gangs and the “Chemical Jihad”

A Taliban fighter killed this spring by NATO troops in southern Afghanistan was found to have a tattoo from the Aston Villa Football Club, indicating he may have grown up in Britain’s West Midlands. It was the latest evidence that British Muslims of South Asian origin have joined the fight in Afghanistan.
For some time, Royal Air Force spy planes have picked up radio communication between Taliban fighters who speak with thick accents from Manchester, Birmingham, West Bromwich and Bradford, all cities with large populations of British Muslims of South Asian origin.

“But it was a shock to hear that the guys we were fighting against supported the same football clubs as us, and maybe even grew up on the same streets as us,” the Telegraph newspaper quoted an unnamed British military official as saying.

Some law enforcement officials believe the British Taliban fighters may have links to criminal gangs in Britain whose members are Muslim and who have been connected to selling heroin on British streets. At least one other captured Taliban fighter was found to have British gang tattoos on his arms, according to a western law enforcement advisor to the U.S. military, and there is evidence that various British Muslim gangs have sent fighters to Afghanistan, or sell Afghan heroin on British streets. Roughly 90 percent of the heroin sold in Britain comes from Afghanistan.

The Gambinos, gangsters of Pakistani origin who take their name from the New York crime family, have been linked to selling Afghan heroin in north London and Luton. So have the South Man Syndicate (SMS) and the Muslim Boys (who are also known as the PDC, or Poverty Driven Children).

“The big bosses have Taliban and al Qaeda connections and we’re often told only to deal it to non-Muslims. They call it chemical jihad and hope to ruin lives while getting massive payouts at the same time,” said a street dealer quoted in this British tabloid.

Members of the Muslim Boys, a gang of Afro-Caribbean Muslim converts (many of who converted to Islam in prison) have boasted to the British media of their links to to al Qaeda, although British officials admit it is hard to tell how much is bravado and how much is a sign of a concrete relationship between extremists in South Asia and the Muslim gangs of the U.K.

But some British law enforcement officials believe the link is there – and a cause for serious worry. Lee Jasper, the chair of the Lambeth police consultative group has expressed concerns that “the leaders of the Muslim Boys could be a criminalized front for terrorist extremists” in Britain.

Although the DEA says less than 5% of the heroin sold on U.S. streets comes from Southwest Asia, some U.S. law enforcement authorities nonetheless fear that Afghan heroin could be headed this way. Currently the vast majority of criminal gangs tied to smuggling heroin into the U.S. are Latin American, not South Asian, in origin. That said, Canada’s Royal Mounted Police recently warned that more than 60 percent of the heroin sold in Canada now comes from Afghanistan and links have been established between Indian crime rings and that emerging trend.

Double murder probe as two women are found dead in flat ‘after party’

A murder investigation is underway after police discovered two women dead in a flat after a party.
Officers found the bodies on Saturday morning in the first-floor flat in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
Two men, aged 19 and 23, and a 19-year-old woman were arrested for murder nearly 250 miles away from the crime scene by Kent Police, following a phone call from a woman who feared for the victims’ safety.
One of the victims has been named locally as Kim Frank, who is thought to be 17.
The flat, where Kim had been living alone for the past two months, was notorious among local residents for hosting rowdy parties.
Neighbours said they had not seen the girls since a loud party took place on Thursday night.
One neighbour who knew Kim said: ‘She often had men round at the flat drinking and partying.
‘I saw three men in the flat on Thursday evening with the two women through the windows but the curtains have been closed since then.
‘They had a party on the Thursday night. She kept the curtains closed during the day and then would open them about teatime.
‘The lads appeared about 6pm or 7pm, they were drinking and the music got really loud by about 10pm. The lights were still on in the flat when I went to bed.
‘It was the last time I saw the curtains open. Since then they have been closed all the time. I think whatever happened must have happened that night.
‘Two men, including the one with the bald patch came round on Friday teatime and were throwing stones at the window to try and get in but there was no response.
‘There were people round at the flat most nights, usually Asian men who don’t live on the estate. Kim was quite quiet.’
Another neighbour said: ‘Kim was always having parties and there was often shouting and loud music. She hung out with Asian men a lot. There have been a few times when trouble kicked off.’
Another resident said: ‘Last week there were some lads mouthing off coming out of her flat during the week.’
The area around the flat where the bodies were found has been sealed off while police carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Officers were contacted by Kent Police at 4.47am after a 19-year-old woman in Dover raised concerns for the safety of two women from the West Yorkshire area.’
A Kent Police spokeswoman said: ‘Officers from Kent Police were called to Gloster Way, Dover, at 4.15am this morning following concerns for a woman’s safety.
‘On arrival, the 19-year-old woman raised concerns for the safety of two further women in West Yorkshire. Acting on that information, police in West Yorkshire found the bodies of two women at a property in Wakefield.
All further inquiries were directed to West Yorkshire Police.
